About Cicero

Nestled at the north end of Morse Reservoir, Cicero Indiana's history and heritage goes back nearly two centuries.

In the late 1820s settlers first arrived near the area now known as Cicero. Those settlers included Henry Jones, William Taylor and Mr. Blanche, father to Kokomo's Col. Blanche. Henry Jones settled about three miles west of Cicero and erected a large log cabin, which he soon converted into a tavern between 1830-1831. On the heavily travelled Lafayette Road, Mr. Jones operated the tavern at his farm for a number of years. Mr. Blanche built his home on the banks of Cicero Creek, immediately west of the present location of the town of Cicero.

The Town of Cicero was platted in 1834. During its early years the town prospered with the area's natural gas reserves, and enjoyed a variety of businesses including manufacturers, factories, a saw mill, dry goods and groceries, meat markets, blacksmiths, a grain elevator, boot and shoe makers and furniture dealers. Cicero was a progressive, bustling town and except for Noblesville, was the largest in Hamilton county.

In 1956, Big Cicero and Little Cicero Creeks were dammed to create Morse Reservoir. Cicero sits on the north end of Morse, the third reservoir of water for the city of Indianapolis, featuring 1500 acres of water and 35 miles of shoreline. Hundreds of beautiful upscale homes and older lake cottages dot Morse's shoreline. In the Summer, Cicero and Morse bustle with activity.

Today, Cicero's official population is 4,300, and many Morse residents also claim it as their home town.
